2024 Event

It is with deep regret that Te Anau Events and the Milford Mountain Classic organising committee advise that the difficult decision has been made that the Milford Mountain Classic event will no longer go ahead.

The organising committee had several factors to weigh carefully, but, in the end, the safety of our participants, spectators and volunteers were foremost in our minds.

The event was reinstated in 2021, after covid, when the Milford Road was quiet. Visitors to the area have now returned to pre covid numbers, and it has been deemed too hazardous to safely hold a cycle event along the Milford Road.

The committee also deliberated around changing the time of the year to a quieter time; but unfortunately, the unpredictable Fiordland weather introduces another set of potential safety issues for the event.

For those who've been part of the event over the years, we appreciate that this news might be disheartening. For this we apologise, and thank you for your past support.

Milford Mountain Classic

For those up for the challenge the Milford Mountain Classic is likely to be the ride of a lifetime! Road Biking Te Anau from Milford Sound!

The hardy souls who saddle up for the annual challenge are treated to magnificent vistas of Fiordland National Park.

Resisting the urge to stop and admire the view could prove the hardest thing about racing through the world-renowned World Heritage Area. Road Biking at its best

The seventh edition of the Classic was held on Saturday 18th February 2023 and the date for the eighth edition will be announced very soon.

Three categories to choose from - the 120km Classic starting from Milford Sound, the 100km Homer Hundred starting from the Homer Tunnel or the 65km Eglinton Challenge starting from Knobs Flat.

Take in the breathtaking mountains, wild rivers, waterfalls, beech forest on one of the most iconic highways in the world; the hard work is rewarded on many levels.Biking Te Anau has so many options to fill your weekend. We have wonderful trail tracks that take you along the edge of the fiordland national park if road biking isnt your thing.
