The Te Anau Helicopter Services Fiordland Big 3 tournament is a hunting event based in the Fiordland Mountains around Te Anau, New Zealand. Hunters team up to bag a deer, pig and fish. Might seem easy to some, but the 'one that got away' just doesn't count!
Event overview
Hunting begins at 7:00pm on the Thursday before Queen's Birthday weekend. Teams can hunt throughout the Fiordland region and also the wider Southland and Otago area to bag the best they can find in each of the three trophy species; deer, pig, fish. Hunting teams must then get to the weigh-in before the 2:00pm cut-off deadline on Sunday.
During the course of the afternoon there will be pig carrying competitions for men, ladies, children, and a combined adult and child section - and possum-slinging too! Great fun and great prizes up for grabs.
The major prize from Te Anau Helicopter Services, and more will be by barrel draw under Police Supervision. This will be in the form of a shoot-out involving 4 random entrants who have got all 3 species.
